How to Create a TRC Wallet

A step-by-step setup guide for beginners

Creating a TRC wallet takes less than 5 minutes. This guide walks you through the process using TronLink, the most widely used TRON wallet, but the steps are similar for Trust Wallet and Gem Wallet.

Step 1 — Download TronLink

Visit the official TronLink website (tronlink.org) or your phone's app store. Download the mobile app (iOS or Android) or the browser extension (Chrome). Only use official sources to avoid phishing apps.

Step 2 — Create a New Wallet

Open TronLink and select "Create Wallet." You will be prompted to set a strong password. This password encrypts your wallet on your device — it does not replace your recovery phrase.

Step 3 — Back Up Your Recovery Phrase

TronLink will display a 12-word (or 24-word) mnemonic phrase. This is the most important step. Write the phrase down on paper and store it in a secure offline location. Never photograph it, email it, or save it in a cloud service. Anyone with this phrase can access your wallet from any device.

Step 4 — Verify Your Recovery Phrase

The app will ask you to confirm your phrase by selecting words in order. This ensures you have recorded it correctly.

Step 5 — Activate Your Wallet Address

Your TRON address is now created but needs activation. Send at least 1 TRX to your new address. You can purchase TRX from any major exchange (Binance, Kraken, Coinbase). Once the TRX is received, your wallet is active and can hold any TRC-20 token including USDT.

Step 6 — Enable TRC-20 Tokens

In TronLink, go to your asset list and add the tokens you want to track, such as USDT (TRC-20). The wallet will now display your USDT balance alongside your TRX.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is TronLink available on iPhone?

Yes, TronLink is available on both iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Android. It is also available as a Chrome and Firefox browser extension for desktop use.

Q: What if I lose my recovery phrase?

If you lose your recovery phrase and cannot access your wallet through other means, your funds are permanently inaccessible. There is no customer support recovery option for self-custody wallets. Always store your phrase in multiple secure locations.

Q: Can I import an existing wallet?

Yes. When setting up TronLink, choose 'Import Wallet' instead of 'Create Wallet' and enter your 12 or 24-word recovery phrase. Your full balance and transaction history will be restored.
